Snacks, lunch and eating times together as a class

At the Dutch School, children enjoy eating together with their class. Every day, students bring their own snack and lunch from home, so they can have something they like and that suits them.

Breaks and meal times

The snack is eaten in the classroom, just before the short break from 10:00 to 10:30 AM. Lunch is at 11:45 AM for the lower grades and at 12:15 PM for the middle and upper grades. After that, it's time to play outside and relax.

Healthy choices

We encourage healthy choices. A piece of fruit or another healthy snack is ideal for the morning. At lunchtime many children enjoy a sandwich, but bringing a different meal is also fine. At our school we see a wonderful mix of lunch habits: from chapati to pasta or rice dishes in insulated containers. Diverse, international, and matching what children enjoy and are used to at home. Please note that we cannot heat meals at school.

Drinking water

Plenty of fresh drinking water is available for the children to use throughout the day.

A pleasant moment together

The snack and lunch moments are meant as a calm and pleasant time together. Often the teacher reads aloud a fun, exciting, or funny story during the meal. A welcome pause in the middle of the school day!
